Prehistory and History
Tenos, the fourth largest island of the Cyclades, is located between Andros and Mykonos, in a key position for controlling the sea routes leading from Euboea and Attica to the central and southern Cyclades. Archaeological research on Tenos, compared to other Cyclades islands, is limited, resulting in gaps in the reconstruction of the island’s importance, especially in antiquity. Nevertheless, the identification of more and more archaeological sites on the island shows that Tenos has much of value to offer in the study of Cycladic culture in both prehistoric and historical times.
