The biggest celebration in Anaphe takes place at the Monastery of Ano Kalamiotissa at the top of Mount Kalamos, on the eve and on the day of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, September 8. The icon of the Virgin Mary is carried by the residents to Ano Kalamiotissa, where an overnight ceremony is held; the next morning the icon returns to the monastery of Kato Kalamiotissa.
The catholicon of the Monastery belongs to the type of single-nave domed church, with a semicircular apse at the Holy Sanctuary to the east and a two-arched Neoclassical bell-tower to the west. In addition to the catholicon, four cells and a water cistern survive.
