The Tower of Cheimarros is located on the southeast side of Naxos, in the Zas mountain range, between Cheimarros and Petronia at a distance of 12 km from Filoti. It is a circular marble tower of the 4th century BC, with a diameter of 9.20 m that survives at a height of 14 m. Its original height is estimated at 17 m. The few openings – the only window is at a height of 10 m from the ground level and the others but arrow-slits – all emphasize the defensive character of the building, which is surrounded by an approximately square walled enclosure with a side length of 35 m. In the enclosure, workshops (olive presses) from Roman times have been discovered, with storage areas from Late Antiquity.
For its immediate protection, but also for the future restoration of the monument, the work of removing the old scaffolding and installing a new one has begun and is being completed.
