Gavrio and its four towers, Andros

The four-towered structure at Gavrio is set at the highest point above the quarries of Pelekiti. It overlooks a large area, from Kafeiras to the middle of the west coast of Andros. On a clear day, Evia, Attica, Kea, Kythnos, as well as the islands of the central Cyclades can all be seen.

It has a trapezoidal plan with four small towers, which stick out to the west and east, parallel to the north and south sides. The regular shape and the way it was built date it to the early Byzantine period.
