The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary or the Panagia in Mesathouri belongs to the type of cruciform two-column church with a dome and with a three-sided apse in the east. It is roofed by means of arches on all four arms of the cross, in the east with simple arches and in the west with cross vaults. Extensive repairs and interventions have been executed on the church, such as the extension to the west, of 1879 (dated by a built-in inscription), carried out to serve liturgical needs, and the construction of the newer bell-tower in the southwest.
